From its founding in 1999, the Magrabi Foundation (originally the Al Noor Magrabi Foundation) has focused on developing the Middle East region's first quality "low-pay" eye hospital and developing its financial sustainability. Its strong eye "caravan" program has taken screening services into every Governorate (state) of Egypt and brings patients to its hospital in Cairo for eye surgery.
Seva works with Magrabi to strengthen it as a regional resource for building community eye care services and program sustainability. This has taken the form of Magrabi offering workshops on Management for Eye Care Service Delivery with ten hospitals and conducting several projects to increase utilization of eye care services with a focus on women. In addition, through the TOMS partnership, Seva has augmented Magrabi’s existing support by contributing toward subsidized eye care services in outreach settings.
