Sight in Cambodia
cambodia_video2.jpg
Many Cambodia children do not have access to eye care services. Seva trains Cambodian doctors and provides infrastructure so that Cambodia can provide care to it's own citizens. Last year, over 70,000 children in Cambodia received eye examinations as a result of Seva's work. 1/2 of children who go blind in developing countries will die within the first year. By preventing and treating blindness, Seva provides opportunities for life to children around the world.

Dhana lives in one of the most isolated, impoverished villages on the planet, Bajura, Nepal, a stunning but unforgiving landscape he has not seen for five years. Dhana Kadka is blind due to cataracts. Despite this, he walked 10km through the rocky terrain of far west Nepal by feel and memory. Kadka learned that a group of Seva-supported eye doctors were coming for a special visit. So he made the perilous journey on foot for the chance to see.

Your Support is Providing One Million People Annually with Vital Eye Care in 22 Countries Around the Globe

From remote mountain villages in Tibet to the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, your support is bringing eye care to the people who need it most.

We are thrilled to report that, coinciding with our 35th year of service, Seva has provided 3.5 million sight-restoring surgeries, and now serves over one million people annually with other forms of vital eye care.

Seva is building on-the-ground infrastructure that is there to stay. Our approach focuses on working with existing government or organizations to build local clinics and train local doctors and staff.

We create a spark that will be sustained by local communities for years to come.

Recently, Seva’s global eye care network expanded and now includes programs in Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Uganda.

We are proud to be turning your compassion into action in 22 countries around the globe, making eye care more accessible than ever.

In Nepal, where Seva has been working for 35 years, Seva supporters helped us reach an important milestone. Today, every district throughout the country, even the most remote, now has access to an eye clinic or hospital.

It was a very successful year for Seva’s work in this region, with the establishment of the new Khandbari Eye Care Center in eastern Nepal and the strategic upgrade of two remote facilities in the towns of Mahendranagar and Dhankuta. These centers are now are able to provide much needed year-round surgical and sight-restoring services.

In the United States, 2013 was an exciting year with the launch of Seva’s American Indian Sight Initiative. This initiative builds on our previous work with American Indians and provides vision screening and eyeglasses for children in need in six schools on and around the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. The initiative is also training a future generation of Native eye care leaders, providing higher education opportunities for promising young Native Americans to become opticians and optometrists. These new eye care professionals will help to close the gap in eye care for their communities.

Our work is not yet finished as 39 million people remain unnecessarily blind in the world and another 246 million suffer from acute visual impairment.

Seva’s 35-year track record of innovative programs based on sustainability and partnership has proven we can work major miracles with minimal resources. We invite you to join us for the next 35 years and beyond to grow our global footprint of services so that no child, woman or man remains needlessly blind or suffers from visual impairment.
