Al Noor Foundation and Center for Community Ophthalmology (Cairo, Egypt)
From its founding in 1999, the Al Noor Foundation has focused on developing the Middle East region's first quality "low-pay" eye hospital and developing its financial sustainability. Al Noor's strong eye "caravan" program takes screening services into every Governorate (state) of Egypt and brings patients to its hospital in Cairo for eye surgery. Al Noor now has a strategic plan, created in partnership with IEF, Aravind Project Impact, Seva, and regional & international bodies to considerably expand eye services, health services and systems research, consultancy, and trianing (clinical and managerial). Al Noor is currently working to improve the functioning of several eye hospitals elsewhere in Egypt. Seva's particular interest is to strengthen Al Noor as a regional resource for building community eye care services and program sustainability. This has taken the form of Al Noor offering workshops on Management for Eye Care Service Delivery with ten hospitals and conducting several projects to increase utilization of eye care services with a focus on women.
