Seva Foundation A Solution in Sight.

Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya Department of Community Ophthalmology (Chitrakoot, India)

The Department of Community Ophthalmology was founded in 2002 through the efforts of Seva Foundation and SNC, to reflect the importance of increased community awareness and participation in restoring sight throughout the region. These efforts plus key consulting and training through Aravind have made a major contribution toward improving the patient flow to the hospital and helping to achieve the very high degree of sustainability it experiences today. The Community programs of SNC now involve development of Vision Centres along the LVPEI model as well as growing investigation into community service effectiveness. The Department of Community Ophthalmology has now taken the shape of a Centre for Community Ophthalmology with focus on Advocacy, Project Management, Research, Training and networking with Public Health programs. The CCO at SNC will be instrumental in years to come in offering training and consultation to other institutions in this vast region. This will radically increase the number of sustainable, community-oriented eye hospitals serving North-central India.
