The Wavy Gravy Movie: Saint Misbehavin' A Film by Michelle Esrick Now Available on dvd!
Wavy Gravy became a legend at Woodstock, is a hero to thousands of children who’ve attended Camp Winnarainbow, and is known around here as one of Seva’s co-founders and board members. Now, he’s the subject of the documentary film The Wavy Gravy Movie: Saint Misbehavin'.
This entertaining and inspiring feature film tells the story of
Wavy’s lifetime as an artist, humorist and humanitarian activist. By
blending Wavy’s own words with stories from an extraordinary array of
his friends, the film reveals the man behind the clown’s grin and the
fool’s clothing.
Sharing their personal stories and words of admiration are Bonnie
Raitt, Jackson Browne, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Odetta, Patch Adams, Steve
Earle, Buffy Sainte Marie and many others.
Saint Misbehavin’ is filled with rare and wonderful archival footage, including never before seen clips of Wavy and Dr. Larry Brilliant’s legendary hippie-bus caravan from London to Nepal in 1970 — the visit that became part of the impetus for creating Seva Foundation.
Some
of Wavy's biggest Seva-supporters came together to record Wavy's song,
Basic Human Needs, which plays over the end credits. Amazing new
gospel/blues arrangement with Jackson Browne, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt,
Taj Mahal, Bob Weir, Buffy Sainte Marie, Maria Muldaur and Steve Earle,
among others.
