Seva Monthly Donor:

"Seva sees that everyone has value to their family and their community."

Rosemary Lanyon of Burlingame, California, first learned about Seva years ago at a benefit concert. She felt moved to donate because, as she says, “I’ve always been involved in the arts, and a visual take on the world is important to me. I feel such compassion for people who lose their sight.”

After seven years as an occasional donor, Rosemary decided in 2017 that she wanted to make the commitment to ongoing, regular donations. She’s now a committed member of Seva’s Circle of Sharing monthly giving program. The turning point was when she read an article in Seva’s newsletter about an older woman who had had her sight restored with a $50 cataract surgery. Rosemary realized that “even when I’m distracted with things in my daily life, setting up a recurring donation means that every month, I can restore someone’s sight.”

“The gentleness of Seva’s work” especially appeals to Rosemary. “There’s not a lot of ego involved. Politically, I like the idea that Seva restores people’s sight no matter who they are. The people at Seva value each person and recognize that everyone has value to their family and their community.”

Seva’s focus on gender equity also fits with Rosemary’s values and is especially fitting as we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.
