Benefit Concerts a Huge Success!
A coast-to-coast celebration of Seva co-founder
Wavy Gravy's 75th Birthday!

bobby_chris_2_jay_b.jpgThe Bay Area was treated to an extraordinary night at the sold-out Craneway Pavilion - the first of two recent concerts produced by the Seva Foundation to raise funds and awareness in support of our global health programs.

The second event at New York's majestic Beacon Theatre brought another all-star cast to the stage and audiences to their feet.

The two shows that featured an incredible line-up of Seva friends including Bob Weir, Ani DiFranco, David Crosby & Graham Nash, Jackson Browne, and many more!

As the sun set over the harbor, a sold-out crowd poured into the brand new Craneway Pavilion, a state-of-the-art new venue that Seva is among the first to utilize.

An impressive line-up graced the stage including Seva lifetime honorary board member Bob Weir, along with his fellow Grateful Dead bandmate Mickey Hart.

From the Black Crowes the ever-popular Chris Robinson took the expansive room by storm with his unique brand of grooves.

Nicki Bluhm graced the stage many times throughout the night bringing her stunning voice into the mix.

Zero, came together for a rare appearance since the passing of their beloved saxophonist Martin Fierro.

Hot Buttered Rum, a fast rising very popular string band had the audience stomping their feet early in what would turn out to be a show that went nearly all night.

There was also the Ace of Cups reunion, a female fronted band well known in the 60s for pioneering a path for women musicians who wanted break into the scene.

Special guests included Mark Karan, Henry Kaiser, Jeff Chimenti, John Molo, Barry Melton, Robin Sylvester, Pete Sears, Barry Sless, James Nash and more.

The Mayor of Berkeley presented Wavy with a plaque celebrating his years of community activism and designating the day officially as Wavy Gravy Day. At midnight there was a huge balloon drop that caught everyone including Wavy himself by surprise!  A massive drum circle ensued as Wavy was hoisted onto a throne and paraded through the crowds.

It was a night to remember and the jam went on late into the night.  But this was only the first of two shows which together would raise over $120,000 to support Seva's work around the globe!

New York City's Beacon TheatreBeacon_montage.jpg
After a whirlwind media tour, including a feature on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams' Making a Difference Report and a guest appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show, Wavy Gravy arrived at New York's beautiful Beacon Theatre for what would be the second of two epic birthday celebrations in his honor.

An unbelievable line-up had come together including Ani Difranco, Crosby & Nash, Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, Dr. John, Bruce Hornsby, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Jorma Kaukonen and Steve Kimock.

Thousands of fans packed-in, flocking from throughout the Northeast to catch this once-in-a-lifetime benefit event.

There were numerous walk-ons as the jam packed night took shape - culminating in a finale with everyone on stage for a number of songs.

Between sets, footage rolled from the feature documentary Saint Misbehavin': The Wavy Gravy Movie.  Clips enlightened audiences to the incredible life that Wavy Gravy has led, from childhood walks with his friend Albert Einstein, rooming with Bob Dylan above the Gaslight Lounge on Bleeker Street, to his humanitarian work and becoming a Ben & Jerry's flavor.

After the concert, a post-show reception treated VIP ticket holders to a meet and greet with musicians.  Seva is famous for putting together incrdible VIP packages and many donors look forward to our concerts as the time when they give generously, picking up VIP tickets for friends and family.  They know Seva will provide a night they will never forget.

Limited edition silk screened posters were produced for both events, these are sought after collectors items in the world of rock and roll memorabilia and something Seva's graphic artists create for nearly all of our larger benefit events.

In true Seva fashion, the organization is already working on the next batch of events - though no line-up or date has been publically announced yet.  You can be the first to find out by joining our Seva eNews list.  You'll be the first to hear when concerts and events are announced, how to get advance tickets, and the details on our special VIP packages.

Thank you to all of the artists, volunteers, and attendees who have joined together to help make these benefit concerts such a great success.  We couldn't do it without you and we are extremely grateful!  On behalf of all of us here at Seva and the people we serve around the world - Thank you!
