Seva’s partner, the Magrabi Foundation, is one of the only non-governmental institutions of its kind in Egypt that provides quality eye care for people regardless of their ability to pay. Magrabi’s training, service, and research programs are reaching people throughout the region, not only in Egypt. Their outreach program is vital in reaching disadvantaged people who otherwise would not have access to care. In 2013, the outreach caravan and local vision center team screened more than 300,000 patients and made more than 75,000 medical prescriptions.
Seva currently supports Magrabi’s outreach program through direct services of eyeglasses, medical treatments, and surgeries including cataract, supported by Seva’s partnership with TOMS. These direct eye care services support the Magrabi outreach program in serving the disadvantaged regions. In addition, Seva has supported mentoring of ophthalmic departments within two district hospitals to build quality eye care services.
