Haiti currently has the highest prevalence of blindness in the Latin American/Caribbean region. The greatest cause of blindness in Haiti is cataract, and with only 55 ophthalmologists in the entire country (of whom it is not known how many are currently practicing) quality, affordable eye care for the entire country is desperately needed.
In 2013 Seva partnered with the International Eye Foundation and Visualiza Eye Care system to work with Vision Plus Clinique (CVP), a new eye clinic located in Cap Haitien. Staff from IEF and Visualiza have spent time training and working with the staff of Vision Plus Clinique on surgical skills, patient flow, clinic set-up, data collection and many other topics. This hospital and its dedicated staff are one of the only clinics bringing eye care to the people of Northern Haiti.
