Nicaragua, with almost half of its population living below the poverty line, is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. It is also the largest country in Central America. Through Seva’s Global Sight Initiative, partner organization International Eye Foundation (IEF) began working in Nicaragua in 2013 with Clinica Oftalmologica Ojo Sano (COOS).

COOS provides quality Ophthalmic and Optical services to residents of Managua as well as patients from surrounding rural areas. The clinic is staffed by Nicaraguan ophthalmologists who are there full time. Seva-funded projects executed by IEF staff include: increasing outreach to under-served areas of Managua, increasing patient volume at the hospital and increasing the number of cataract surgeries provided by COOS surgeons.
