With support from Soor Aur Saptak's fundraiser, Seva provided over 133,668 children in India with vital eye care services in 2019

The beautiful Soor Aur Saptak musical event , a long time Seva partner, supported Vivekananda Mission Asram Netra Niramay Niketan (VMANNN), and our 2 new partner hospitals - HV Desai Eye Hospital in Pune and Dr. Shroff's Eye Hospital in New Delhi in providing quality, comprehensive eye care to children in West Bengal during 2019.

The funds raised at the 7th annual event for Soor Aur Saptak provided 133,668 children with eye care screenings. Of these, 1,001 children received sight saving eye surgeries and 3,488 children were issued prescription glasses.

Around the world, 19 million children under the age of 15 have impaired vision, including 12 million with vision impairment due to refractive error and 1.4 million with blindness. Approximately three-quarters of the world's blind children live in the poorest regions of Africa and Asia. Good vision is critical for bright futures as 80% of what a child learns is processed through the visual system. A child's ability to fully participate in and benefit from educational, social and eventually professional activities needs clear vision.

Thanks to Seva's partners like Soor Aur Saptak, more children will have these opportunities. Through our commitment, children not only receive an eye screening but also the needed additional support such as glasses, medicine or surgery. With support from Soor Aur Saptak, Seva programs are on target to reach our goal of screening 1 Million children by December 2020.

The March 2019 performance raised close to $51,000 through the event, monthly donations from the SAS community members, Intel and other company matching gifts and Intel Volunteer hours.

Preeti Rao, an accomplished singer who performed for All India Radio on Mysore station and associated with SAS for a long time said, "Soor aur Saptak has almost become a festival in Portland. The community here comes together with a lot of seva manobhaav (service mindset), enjoying the process of putting together and pulling off a creative musical show that benefits children in India. I am proud of what the SAS family has been accomplishing in all these years, and wish the best for years to come"

"Singing with SAS has been a journey of a lifetime. This wonderful experience has truly inspired me to dream bigger and contribute more towards society. Also, I have never performed for an audience as wonderful as SAS audience; you make me feel like jumping from the stage."
