Ama was blind. Now, she can see!

When she was a young woman, Ama's left eye was damaged beyond repair in an accident. As she grew older, he right eye developed a mature cataract leaving her totally blind. For many years, Ama lived in darkness.

Many people in remote or impoverished areas are unable to access even basic eye care services.

Living in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal, Ama had no hope of regaining her eyesight until five years ago, when she received a free cataract surgery at a Seva Remote Eye Camp.

Since then, Ama has made a habit of hiking several miles to visit the Seasonal Eye Camps in her area to express her gratitude. This time, Ama invited us to visit her home, excited to show Seva donors everything she can do since her sight had been restored.

Simple things that many of us take for granted like being able to walk on her own meant great improvements in the quality of Ama's life. Now, she's able to prepare meals and clean the house and look after the animals. Instead of being totally dependent on her family, Ama is an active, contributing member of the household.
