Yoga studios offer classes and other activities that encourage participants to reflect upon the gift of sight. Some studios offer classes in the dark or invite participants to wear blindfolds. Others offer a special meditation practice or show a film that profiles Seva's work around the world to protect and restore eyesight in communities with limited access to medical care.
Many yoga practitioners have a personal commitment to promote compassion in the world and deepen their connection with the global community. Yoga for Sight provides an opportunity to do both while transforming the lives of people in need.
Funds raised through Yoga for Sight support eye exams, eyeglasses, medical care and sight-restoring surgeries to adults and children from underserved communities in places like Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Nepal, as well as in Native communities in the United States.
Globally, there are 39 million people who are blind and another 246 million who suffer from low vision. The World Health Organization estimates that 80% of blindness and low-vision can be prevented or cured. For every $50 raised through Yoga for Sight events, a person in need will have their eyesight restored. To date, Yoga for Sight has raised nearly $60,000 to support Seva's vital eye care programs.
