Magnifying Seva's Reach and Expanding Opportunity for Women

Seva supports training programs for local eye care professionals with various levels of expertise in over 20 countries. Ophthalmic assistants, counselors, and other trained eye care staff can multiply each ophthalmologist's efficiency ten-fold, greatly increasing the number of patients an eye clinic or hospital can help every year.

Seva's support of training programs also boosts gender equity, because in many countries these assistants are predominantly women. Through working in eye care programs, they gain valuable skills and are able to contribute economically to their communities and to live more independent lives than might otherwise have been possible. They also play an invaluable role in supporting patients through the screening and treatment process.

“Before the training, we didn’t know the details of surgical procedures. Now we can explain to the patient why [the surgery] is necessary. With counseling, we are able to help a lot of people.”
– Anamika, Counselor Trainee
